Deep Foam Injection Soil Stabilization

Deep Injection Concrete Repair

What Is Deep Foamjection?

An advancement of standard concrete raising, Deep Foamjection. The foam is installed deeper which allows it to increase the load bearing capacity of the soils.

We inject specialized foam through points below a slab to increase and stabilize the load bearing capacity of failing subgrades. Many times it’s done along with standard Foamjection to stabilize subgrade and lift slabs.

Deep Foam Injection Benefits

  • Upgrade to sub-surface concrete lifting
  • Repair unstable soils
  • Installing a stronger foundation to support slabs and structures that settled
  • Foam follows the path of least resistance and will fill weak areas
  • Fills fissures and ground voids
  • Fills voids holding water & displaces collected water
  • Increase load bearing capacity of subgrade
  • Permanent repair, foam never changes shape or absorbs ground water
  • Foam soaks into the weak soils and then expands, binding the soil and making it solid
  • Does not leach chemicals into the ground

Foam Injection Alone Can Raise And Stabilize Slabs

Added benefit of using the Deep Foamjection application is that we can also stabilize the ground beneath the slab. This offers a stable foundation to support your Foamjection project. Deep Foamjection is an upgrade from standard Foamjection applications which places foam directly under the slab.

Foamjection foams are environmentally friendly, consisting of 39-49% renewable and recycled materials.

Why Do Soils Fail?

  • Erosion- Seawalls are commonly exposed to currents and wave action that erode soils
  • Improper drainage design- Supporting soils and fill can erode leaving slabs and structures without necessary support when drainage is improperly designed
  • Excessive loads- soil failures and settlement are common when slabs and roadways are exposed to loads heavier than the engineered load bearing capacity of the sub grade or structure
  • vibrations- settlement and voids can be created when vibrations from passing traffic or equipment operation occur
  • Variable water levels- high water levels can cause erosion while low water levels can deteriorate construction materials causing failures
  • Water Content- the water content of soil will impact the behavior of soils seasonally with frost & heave cycles or drought and wet conditions
  • Over-saturated soils- soils can compact and allow for settlement
  • Seasonal impact- Frost heave or extreme weather conditions
  • Sink Holes- Deep Foamjection is the best solution for sink holes that occur close to the surface
  • Weak Natuve Soils- Some soils can retain moisture and behave like a clay or sand resulting in settlement
  • Construction design Failure or Improperly compacted/Failing fill material

The Proven Process:

  1. Test: We will evaluate the soils to identify the appropriate injection strategy. There are various methods to evaluate soils some tests can give one point of reference where others can evaluate the entire site.
  2. Install Pipes: We will install 1/4"-1/2" (inch) pipes at the required depth
  3. Pump: Polyurethane is incrementally injected through the pipe until the designed amount is installed or movement is registered with monitoring equipment. Deep Foamjection requires a specially designed polyurethane material manufactured by HMI. This material is resistant to water and has the appropriate reaction profile to allow material to flow. The Deep Foamjection process introduces a volume of liquid into the void or soils that will expand into foam. The liquids saturate into the soils before expanding, locking the soils in place. This additional volume created will push against surrounding soils making them stronger.
  4. Verify: When the ground, slab, or structure move, the ground is at maximum capacity for how much material can be installed at that location. Our team will verify with a laser level or similar device to confirm the movement is complete.
